Trump retira a EU del tratado de armas de la ONU

El tratado vigila si las armas vendidas pueden ser utilizadas para romper un embargo internacional, violar los derechos humanos o acabar en manos de criminales

El presidente estadounidense, Donald Trump, anunció este viernes que retirará la firma de su país del Tratado de Comercio de Armas (TCA), un texto adoptado en 2013 por la ONU que busca mejorar la regulación del comercio internacional de armas.

"Estados Unidos rechaza ese tratado", dijo Trump durante un discurso en Indianápolis, Indiana, ante miembros de la National Rifle Association (NRA), el poderoso lobby de las armas de fuego.

"Jamás ratificaremos ese tratado", declaró, mostrando una vez más sus recelos ante los tratados internacionales y la organización multilateral con sede en Nueva York.

"Hoy anuncio oficialmente que Estados Unidos va a revocar los efectos de la firma" de ese tratado, afirmó. "Jamás dejaremos que burócratas extranjeros pisoteen las libertades garantizadas por la segunda enmienda" de la Constitución, añadió.

El texto de la ONU recibió la firma de John Kerry, jefe de la diplomacia estadounidense bajo la presidencia del demócrata Barack Obama, pero nunca fue ratificado por el Congreso.

El tratado prevé que los países firmantes estudien antes de cualquier transacción si las armas vendidas pueden ser utilizadas para romper un embargo internacional, violar los derechos humanos o acabar en manos de criminales.

Las armas afectadas por el documento abarcan desde las pistolas hasta misiles, aviones y buques de guerra. El tratado se aplica a todos los tipos de intercambio internacional.
